Big, Rough, and Wrinkly by Moira Butterfield, X
Each title in this delightful and informative series of young naturalist books looks at a different animal and invites youngsters to guess what it is. Opening with a three-word description and followed by a series of colorful drawings depicting a different part of the animal's body, each book gradually reveals the whole animal to the child reader. Accompanying text and additional illustrations provide further clues to the animal's identity and give an insight into how it lives. The books conclude with an illustration of the animal's young, a map of the world showing its homelands, a fun quiz, and a glossary. Various clues to the elephant's identity are provided on each spread. Facts about what the elephant looks like, what it eats, how it behaves, what type of environment it lives in, what noises it makes, and what its young are called are included. Clever art shows the different body parts of the elephant without giving away its identity. A map of the world at the end of the book pinpoints where the African elephant can be found.

Safari, the Last Adventure: How You Can Share in It by Peter Hathaway Capstick,
Peter Capstick's earliest books have firmly established him as the modern-day master of African adventure writing. Now, for all his readers who want to put their taste for adventure into practice, Capstick has written the first modern authoritative, comprehensive guide to African safari. Drawing on his years of experience as a professional hunter, Capstick explains everything a "bwana needs to know: how to select and book a safari; where and when to go; fees and licenses; the guns, ammo, and personal equipment needed. Chapters on each of the Big Five (lion, Cape buffalo, elephant, leopard, and rhino-- the trophies most hunters want to take) describe the techniques, thrills, and dangers of hunting these clever and cunning animals. The other memorable delights of safari, like camp life, bird shooting, fishing, photography, and game viewing in wildlife parks, are also celebrated. A list of safari agencies, hunting companies and professional hunters, suggested equipment for a 21-day safari, and a trophy price list round out the most exhaustive guide to safari ever written. Packed with solid advice and nuggets of campfire lore and hunting yarns, illustrated with thirty-four black and white photographs and six line drawings," Safari: The Last Adventure is sure to become a classic work in its field, essential equipment for anyone going on safari or just dreaming of one...

Forest Elephant - Until recently, it was thought that the so-called Forest Elephant (Loxodonta cyclotis) was simply a subspecies of the African Savannah Elephant (Loxodonta africana). DNA testing has now shown that there are in fact three extant elephant species: the two African types (formerly considered to be separate populations of a single species, the African Elephant) and the South Asian species, known as the Indian or Asian Elephant.

Savanna elephant - The African savanna elephant (Loxodonta africana) is the best-known and larger of the two African elephants. Both it and the forest elephant were previously classified as a single species, which was known simply as the African elephant.

Asian Elephant - The Asian Elephant, sometimes known as the Indian Elephant (Elephas maximus) is one of the two or three living species of elephant. It is smaller than its African relatives, and the easiest way to distinguish the two is the smaller ears of the Asian Elephant.

Golden-rumped Elephant Shrew - The Golden-rumped Elephant Shrew, Rhynchocyon chrysopygus, is the largest of all the unique African family, the elephant shrews. It is the size of a small rabbit, and lives is only found in the coastal Arabuko Sokoke National Park north of Mombassa in Kenya.
